See CyberFaCES in action
Short recorded walkthroughs of the platform. They have no sound: on-screen captions explain each step, and every video has a full transcript and a printable PDF guide below it.
Platform tour
A few minutes with CyberFaCES, from browsing the catalog as a visitor to a learner passing a quiz, an administrator's overview and an instructor's analytics.

[0:03] VISITOR — What anyone sees before signing in [0:06] Visitors get a short tour of what has changed since they were last here. [0:16] CyberFaCES is cyber-training for FAIR science in climate and environmental sustainability. [0:22] Learners pick a path by interest, level up through tiers, or follow structured courses. [0:29] The catalog: every course, module and workshop, filterable by type, level and rating. [0:39] Real courses built by Purdue researchers: hydrology, climate data, sustainability modelling. [0:45] Each course explains what you will learn, how long it takes, and what level it is aimed at. [0:53] Five modules, from accessing public datasets to publishing results, with hands-on Jupyter notebooks. [1:00] Communities give research groups their own space, with members, announcements and branding. [1:04] LEARNER — Dana, a graduate student, working through a course [1:09] Signing in. In production this is CILogon, so people use their own university account. [1:25] Dana's dashboard shows what she's working on, what she's finished, and what she's earned. [1:33] Courses she has started, with her progress through each. [1:38] She's a quarter of the way through FAIR Climate & Water Science. [1:46] Materials are organised into modules and lessons. Green ticks are what she has completed. [1:54] Slides, recordings, datasets and live Jupyter notebooks, all in one place. [2:00] Each module ends with a short check. Four questions on the FAIR principles. [2:13] Dana answers all four... [2:20] ...and passes. Her result is recorded straight away. [2:24] Completing courses earns badges and certificates learners can share. [2:30] ADMINISTRATOR — Running the platform [2:45] Administrators see the whole platform at a glance: users, activity and completions. [2:52] Activity trends over time, and who has been active most recently. [3:01] User management: every account, its roles, and whether they have accepted the current terms. [3:08] INSTRUCTOR — Building and running a course [3:23] Instructors get their own section: every course they teach, with tools to edit, copy or publish. [3:35] Analytics show how a cohort is doing: who is active, who is stuck, how far each has got. [3:43] Engagement over the last 30 days, and how many of your units each learner takes. [3:50] Each student's score, colour-coded, so instructors know who to follow up with. [3:56] Courses are built with a step-by-step wizard. No developer needed. [4:00] CYBERFACES — Cyber-training for FAIR science — for learners and the people who teach them
For instructors
Building a course step by step, duplicating one for a new term, and following each learner's progress.

[0:03] VISITOR — What your learners see before they sign in [0:07] This is the public home page your learners land on. [0:14] Learners can browse by interest, by level, or follow a structured course. [0:21] Your published courses appear here in the public catalog unless you choose to hide them. [0:32] Real courses built by Purdue researchers: hydrology, climate data, sustainability modelling. [0:38] The course page a learner sees before enrolling: description, level, modules, reviews. [0:44] Five modules, from accessing public datasets to publishing results, with hands-on Jupyter notebooks. [0:49] LEARNER — Your learner's experience, start to finish [0:54] Signing in. In production this is CILogon, so people use their own university account. [1:10] Every learner gets a dashboard of in-progress and completed work, badges and certificates. [1:19] Courses she has started, with her progress through each. [1:24] Coming back to a course, the learner picks up where they left off. [1:33] The learner's view of your materials: outline on the left, progress per lesson. [1:41] Slides, recordings, datasets and live Jupyter notebooks, all in one place. [1:46] A quiz: you set the questions, the pass mark and how many attempts are allowed. [2:01] Dana answers all four... [2:07] ...and the result is graded and recorded instantly. You'll see it in your analytics. [2:14] ADMINISTRATOR — Who keeps the platform running [2:30] Admins see platform-wide usage. Your course activity feeds into this too. [2:41] Admins manage accounts and grant roles, including the Instructors role you hold. [2:47] Admins can also see and manage every course on the platform. [2:54] INSTRUCTOR — Your tools: build, copy, monitor [3:14] Instructing lists everything you teach. From here you edit, duplicate or unpublish. [3:29] Analytics across your published courses: enrolments, activity and completion. [3:36] Engagement over the last 30 days, and how many of your units each learner takes. [3:44] Per-student progress. Dana's quiz from a minute ago is already counted. [3:50] The course builder walks you through six steps, from level and description to publishing. [3:57] Materials: add modules and lessons, then drop in files, links, videos, notebooks and quizzes. [4:04] Every lesson from the original course is here, ready to adapt. [4:10] Running the course again next term? Duplicate it instead of starting from scratch. [4:19] You get an unpublished copy, with every lesson, file and quiz, that you can edit before anyone sees it. [4:25] CYBERFACES — Questions? Apply for the Instructors role from the Teach page.
