Terms of service, agreed and on the record
Signing up now asks you to agree to the terms of service, and your agreement is kept together with the version you accepted. When the terms change, a notice appears the next time you visit so you can read and acknowledge them.

A signed-in user can request instructor access or propose a new community. Administrators review the request, and approval grants the matching platform permission.

Open JupyterHub from a course and you are already signed in. A signed token carries your identity across, so there is no second login to remember.
