For Community Leaders
Becoming a community leader
Creating and administering your own community requires approval — see Becoming an instructor or community leader and apply for community access if you haven't already. Once approved, you can create a new community from the communities page.
Your community dashboard
Community admins and moderators get a dedicated management area, separate from the public community pages, for running day-to-day operations: announcement authoring, discussion moderation, and member management.
Managing members
Members join your community themselves (see Joining a community). As an admin, you can:
- Promote a member to moderator, or grant another user admin rights.
- Remove or suspend a member — a suspended member's membership is reactivated (not duplicated) if they rejoin later.
- Enforce a member cap if your community has one configured.
Most member-facing actions only work while your community's status is active — if your community is inactive, joining/leaving and related actions are paused until it's reactivated.
Posting announcements
Announcements are how you communicate with your whole community at once. Publishing an announcement notifies community members. Use announcements for things members need to see (schedule changes, new courses, community news) rather than day-to-day conversation — that's what discussions are for.
Moderating discussions
Every community automatically gets its own forum category, so community discussions use the same threads/replies/likes/mentions system as the general Forum. As a moderator or admin, you can moderate threads within your community's category — the same way a forum moderator would, scoped to your community.
