For Instructors

Becoming an instructor

Course-building tools are only available once you've applied and been approved as an instructor. See Becoming an instructor or community leader if you haven't done this yet.

Building a course

Once approved, use the course builder (/learn/build) to create a new course, or open an existing course of yours to keep editing it. The builder walks you through a fixed sequence of steps:

  1. Level — set the difficulty/level of the course.
  2. Description — title, summary, and the details learners see before enrolling.
  3. Materials — add the content learners will work through: video, text, markdown, PDF, audio, image, quiz, downloadable files, or notebook-launch materials.
  4. Prerequisites — specify anything a learner should complete first.
  5. Achievement — define the badge or certificate learners unlock (see below).
  6. Publishing — review and publish the course.

You can move between steps and come back to a course later — it's saved as you go, not submitted all at once.

Achievements for your course

In the achievement step, you define the criteria a learner must meet to unlock a badge or certificate (for example, completing the course, completing a specific module, or leaving a review). Certificates are generated automatically with the learner's name, your name as instructor, and the completion date — you don't need to design or produce them yourself.

Publishing

A course isn't visible to learners until you publish it from the final step. You can unpublish it later if you need to make major changes, and published courses can also be duplicated as a starting point for a new one.

Managing your courses

From your dashboard's instructing view, you can see all the courses you've built, along with their status. You can duplicate a course, restore a previously deleted one, or delete a course you no longer want to offer. Course-wide administration beyond your own courses (for example, cross-course reporting) is handled by site staff.
